I'm seasick and I'm lurching back and forth again
Getting pulled apart beneath the waves
The apocalypse is in the post, here comes the end of days
The locusts and dead first born, the plagues
Come on steady the boat give me some kind of reason
Somebody's going to come and rescue me
Spread out the weight either side of the fulcrum
Get me back on an even keel
And we'll drain the swamp and we'll avert disaster
We didn't do it like this back in Canada
We didn't do it like this back in '93
We didn't do it like this and I'm world's untold success story
I'm in your elephants' graveyard with my skeleton key
So what's your story, allegory, your fable?
A message in code that no one can hear
Tie up the rope 'cos we're down in the doldrums
Getting dragged down by the puppeteer
And we'll await instructions and avert disaster
You know the trends will come back round.

At the edge of the dustbowl
Where the oceans turn to lakes
The lakes turn into droplets
All the liquids changing phase
Stands the king of the reptiles
The lizards and the snakes
When disaster loomed he bit off and chewed
And left us in his wake
And I feel so let down
The clutch, the brakes, the failsafe
They're cracking at the seams
You pulled the pin, it detonates,
You know exactly where this leads
Your dance won't end the drought
But you make your people oh so proud
You're half jester and half necromancer
You had a spot of bother, a spot of bad luck and turned it around
I feel so let down
I led you up the garden path and there's a hole you're going down
A victim of what's floating in the air
You'll be pushing up the flowers by the time it comes back round
And you'll feel so let down
The rain's become a waterfall and now I'm going to watch you drown
The tides around you flow the waters swell
They'll be laying down the flowers but you never will be found
And you'll feel so let down

None of this was as good
As you've convinced yourself it was
It's not civilisation's greatest loss
There is no resonance
It's not written in history yet
There is no consequence outside your head.
It's not that profound
It's just a point in history the ancient slime pools around
No star shines brighter than this
Lost in that familiar kiss
The oldest wine always pours
So sweet and clear, here and now
Keeps on getting eclipsed
By what's on top of your list
A snapshot of better times
You keep up in your mind
You keep it in your shrine
The crowd didn't go wild
The world just shrugged and turned its back
It got the name wrong, misremebered words
It's not in black and white
Just VHS worn out and lined
There's nothing worth the effort to preserve
What's all this clamour about?
Now everything's sad and it's Sunday
And nobody's singing that loud
Gone to bed young, woke up old?
Have the cliches taken hold?
The mediocrity and the flaws?
Dull shines and feeling less kisses?
No ideas or ambition?
Now that everything is worse
Nothing's stayed the same, in its prime
And it's all a waste of time

The Much Mistaken
04:05
|

An odd thought that might cross his mind
He gets confused from time to time
So the fool of finite jest gets on the line
"Will glass flow like a liquid if you give it time?"
"Windows thicken at the bottom as the solid slides?"
"Will The frames spread out as the pressure bends the lines?"
At the risk of coming across all quantum
The paths diverge into time's distortion
I tell the void but it doesn't understand
The finer points just bloom and get more uncertain
The seed was sown and the doubt emerges
I'm in the weeds and the roots will tighten until I turn blue
The abstract figure of sadness calls
From the bone orchard of thoughts
Where there's insufficient certainty to mourn
The voices in the schizophrenic
Brake the wheels of progress
And the indecision slows it to a crawl
He's hollowed out and his thoughts forsaken
The dormant fallacies awaken
And all the nonsense he indulged
It all comes back to him
Through megaphones, fuzz and distortion
It's taken out of all proportion
It's all mixed up and interleaved
The second thoughts are taken to extremes
Can't push it through, convince the fool of
The way it grows, it decays and rolls off
The simple gets where water can't if you can't see
The spectre of The Much Mistaken
The stain of the assumptions taken
For a fact when nothing's guaranteed or as it seems

Naive and Trusting
04:15
|
|||
Are we thinking the same thing?
Do my thoughts align with you?
The stars converge above us
I'm the twin you never knew
Can't believe I've met you
Read our story in the runes
A million permutations
All my wildest dreams come true
If you're naive and trusting
And you're lacking resilience
And it seems so unlikely but it's the truth
The skull and the bones and
The disinformation
Automatic writing
Must mean something
No good can come from this
From this, no more good can come
it's intentional, it's meant
It's just one more thing that I can fixate on
The CIA and the Kremlin spread the stories you just can't trust
They try to harvest your data
One hand washes the other
It's just what it does
Dont kowtow to the groupthink, the mindset
The sleeper cell, dead letter box, conspiracies and secrets
The modest muted signs of the daybreak
Brighten up for the slow on the uptake
The green, the easily lead, the gullible

Some polymath told me what that building's for
They only put it there to hide all their transmitters in the walls
And in the offices on the floors between the floors
They're interpreting the signals
And they're locking all the doors
Whatever you say, get out of my way, you're wrong, you're wrong
And all their efforts will be wasted
I've cleaned off their flies from me
How do you'll become so trusting and naïve?
You don't see the secret agents with the cameras up their sleeves?
All your favourite songs are just encoded beeps
I'll commandeer your vehicle
Outrun all these subliminal messages you send
The messages you send, you're wrong
And all your efforts will be wasted
I've cleaned off all your flies from me
I'm telling you the truth but you can't face it
The overwhelming facts began to leak
The factories the thought police invaded
We lost them on our journey to defeat
And you're anxious because you complicate the basics
Defiance is a prized antique, you're a bag of nerves
Gutless and weak
Ghosts have chased me up and down
The length and breadth of all this stinking country
Never more than 6 feet behind my axle as I grind around the hillside
This time, it's you or me
Somewhere I found what I wanted to be
And lost myself somewhere around this country
Still I'm only there for show
Push came to shove a long time ago
Shot my mouth off up and down this country
Underneath my nose there's road
Where every inch of tarmac smokes
And up ahead I see my angel landing
Slamming doors and openings
Shifting floors and one more thing
I'm sinking ever further down this country

"...and you've changed."
04:50
|
|||
Scrambled up your bearings and got lost
Over sensitive and soft
Tortured by the photos that I took
And left breathless by the drop
Is it like this because of some celestial design?
You're sorry and regretful and forever contrite
They took over your body and left a spent lookalike
You've gone and you've changed
Metamorphosised, deranged
You've gone you're not here any more
And those superstar thoughts aren't the same
Jumbled up your coding,
Threw exceptions out on running through your script
Kidnapped on a spaceship
Didn't recognise your facelift, nothing clicked
You said it and you meant it and let the imposter in
You turned into a scarecrow, just a husk of a twin
So load your dark cargo with your new phantom limb
You've gone and you've changed
Metamorphosised, deranged
You've gone you're not here any more
And those superstar thoughts aren't the same
